Lions Gate Entertainment has confirmed that they will be supporting the PlayStation Portable handheld.
This is the first studio outside of Sony that has officially proclaimed to support the handheld and format their movies to Universal Media Discs. According to a representative with the company the first movies from their studio to see a release on the handheld will include Saw, House of the Dead, Total Recall and Step Into Liquid.
Lions Gate President Steve Beeks said, "The PSP is truly an incredible machine that will quickly become a popular format with which to enjoy filmed entertainment...From the time it was initially announced, we were preparing for ways we could mileage our extensive library to deliver content for the platform."
This is a good sign of things to come from Lions Gate as they have a library of approximately 8,000 films and television titles. Some of their movies include franchises like Terminator 2: Judgement Day, Dirty Dancing and the Rambo series while they also have control of television hits like Will and Grace and Saturday Night Live.
Lions Gate Entertainment's first four films for the UMD are scheduled to release shortly after the PlayStation Portable's launch March 24th, 2005.
