Video footage of a recent interview of Ted Price and Colin Munson of Insomniac Games regarding Resistance 2 (dated for 2008), the sequel to the best (or second best, depending on your love for Call of Duty 4) shooter on the PlayStation 3, has hit the Web.Hit the jump to view all three of them, but keep in mind that the quality level is a little low.
The game is said to feature:
- A huge co-op component featuring eight player story-driven campaigns over PSN (two player local) alongside single-player campaigns.
- Sixty player competitive modes with a focus on squad-versus-squad combat set in huge United States landscapes.
- New enemies including Chameleon and Stalker with total cloaking ability
- Multiplayer class system. Three basic templates - tank with heavy weaponry, special ops for distance (bullseye modified with zoom) and medic.
- Online matching - standard difficulty discarded for scaled challenges for team skill.
- Partially randomised geometry making levels different with each play through.
- Insomniac have been listening to players complaints about the first game and are also further tapping the power of the PS3 to give more enemies onscreen and improved AI. They are also working on a solution to the long checkpoints and health system.

Threespeech has a lovely screenshot gallery up of a Resistance: Fall of Man fan's attempt to stage aesthetic photo-ops with random gamers. Besides one fellow (located on the right in the above image) by the name of "Italian Crackhead" mowing everybody down in the middle of a shoot, everything seemed to have gone off well (props to Chris "TheMethod").

Sony Computer Entertainment America recently published two new screenshots of its Resistance: Fall of Man Map Pack, developed by Insomniac Games for the PlayStation 3.
The pack will contain two entirely new multiplayer-exclusive levels, one set in Westmorland (the shot with the snowfall) and the other in Camborne (both located in England), along with new modes of play. Gamers should be able to purchase the pack via the PlayStation Network as well as directly via the game. We'll have more details for you as they come in, hopefully including price.

A week before the PS3’s launch, SCEA held an event at Insomniac Studios in Burbank, CA to allow the press to review Resistance for of Man. They set us up in comfy chairs with HD monitors and PS3’s for miles allowing us to play two days straight until our pointer fingers went sore from tapping the R1 button and our minds were lost to Red Bull. The PS3 has now arrived and the embargo has been lifted. Now, I can share my giddy enjoyment over what is arguably the reason you will be buying a PS3 (if you can get your hands on one.)
Resistance: Fall of Man takes place in England between July 11 – July 14, 1951 when the US executed a D-Day like attack against the Chimera, an alien threat that has wiped out Russia and most of Europe. The Chimera are reminiscent of all great sci-fi bug monsters - ugly and hive-minded, assimilating all human flesh in their path. The gamer gets to wear the boots of Nathan Hail, a heroic everyman and sole survivor from the US offensive.
RFOM takes a creative spin on the war genre and give the player a strong story interwoven with the gameplay. It’s no Kojima plotline, but it is immersive nonetheless and has a unique twist in the early levels which make the Nathan Hail character a bit more interesting. Insomniac took a nod from the Medal of Honor series in it’s execution of storytelling. Throughout the game players are shown cut scenes narrated by an Eastern European beauty, and soldier, who encountered Nathan Hail’s heroics. Her telling of Nathan’s story is accompanied by photos and artwork, which has been designed to invoke the feel from that era, albeit with its unique sci-fi take. As I played, I felt like I was receiving a history lesson of a war that never was, yet felt strikingly familiar. This, accompanied by the elaborate mythology on the official game website (www.rfom.com), takes the game beyond the standard shooter title.

One game that is looking incredibly hot this E3 is Insomniac's (developer of Ratchet & Clank) upcoming PlayStation 3 title, Resistance: Fall of Man. We first heard of the announcement at the Sony Press Conference on May 8 and we were finally able to pry information out of Sony and even have a hands-on look. Resistance is set in 1951 in an alternate version of England and does not contain a World War II story.
The storyline is a bit complex, but to kick things off the game is looking very promising. The environments shown were very bright and the lighting was incredibly spot-on throughout both of the demos. Everything within the level can be shot at and destroyed while portraying the result in how it would stand up in real-life. For example, if the gamer shot at a window with his or her gun in real-life, the window would not break but only in those certain areas until you hit the pressure point. The same goes for the game; one shot at a window isn’t going to take the window completely out. And if you do shoot through a bunch of rounds, there will still be some residuals left over. Shooting at a piece of metal isn’t going to do a great deal of damage if you hit it once, but if you turn around and hit a wooden object - it’s totally different.
Weaponry used by your character is very unique and fun. Insomniac has already created these radical weapons that resulted in having many options the player can use in different situations. One of my favorite weapons in the game is the “hedgehog” weapon or in other words a bomb that blows up and spikes come flying out to hit your enemies. This type of weapon is very handy in situations when creatures are in a big group spread out over walls or in one large area. Instead of doing the two-weapon load-out, a weapon bag will store all kinds of weapons you've collected throughout the game.
Motion sensitive integration is also going to be added to vehicles so when you tilt the controller left or right, the player will be able to steer the vehicle. They didn’t go into too much detail regarding the vehicles, but it doesn’t sound like there will be a lot of vehicle interaction in the game besides a few sections.
All in all, Resistance is shaping up to be one hell of a title. It’s very addictive and I can’t wait to check out even more of the game. The company did say it is a launch title, so now I know what game I need to add to my PS3 preorder.
